Dr. Damian Weber is a computer scientist with thirty years of experience using open-source operating systems,
particularly in the context of attacking public-key cryptographic protocols. Since 2002, he has been a professor
at htw saar University of Applied Sciences, the venue of this conference. He is also a co-founder of the OpenSaar
initiative, established in 2002, which promotes the adoption of open-source and free software in Saarland and its
neighboring regions.
We explore digital sovereignty and its critical link to information security. Through an historical lens, the presentation analyzes how data and user security is fundamentally challenged by the loss of control over digital assets, culminating in an assessment of contemporary threats to data autonomy.
